Born in New York City and based near Paris, René Shoemaker feels most at home in big cities. She received her BFA from the University of Georgia, first establishing her career at the UGA College of Environment and Design as a university librarian and gallery director. She moved to France to cultivate her art practice, which centers on painting with dyes on silk to create flowing, colorful expression. René says, “My work explores a sense of place with a curious eye that embraces positive and negative space. Color is my primary language, and I use it to communicate a declaration of joy.”
René Shoemaker exhibits at galleries and public spaces in the US, UK, and France. Her work also contributes to the permanent collections of The Columbus Museum and The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. We look forward to her San Francisco debut exhibition, followed by a three-day workshop, from July 23-25, where she will generously share her silk painting technique.
